Fast-tracking Fast Track Skills Of Future
The University of Tasmania Motorsport team will benefit from a grant to drive the development of our future tech, manufacturing and engineering industry leaders.
UTAS Motorsport, a student-led team, designs, manufacturers and races an electric vehicle in the Formula Society of Automotive Engineers (Formula SAE) competition.
Minister for Sport and Events, Nick Duigan, said the grant would be provided over three years to help the team grow its capabilities and provide students with valuable real-world skills.
“The funding will help the team purchase materials, equipment and tools, as well as offer training opportunities to enhance both engineering and business skills within the team,” Minister Duigan said.
“This partnership has a perfect fit with our goal to develop a highly skilled workforce to support the growth of Tasmania’s manufacturing and technology sectors into the future.
“These impressive students are our industry leaders of the future. They are gaining enormously valuable practical skills in additional to their theoretical expertise.”
The grant is aimed at supporting students in gaining experience that will prepare them for careers in Tasmania’s growth industries.
Beyond traditional manufacturing and engineering, the design experience gained through UTAS Motorsport and their electric vehicle is also highly relevant for the emerging renewables sector.
“This investment is part of our commitment to building a skilled workforce, which is a key part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s for Future,” Minister Duigan said.
“The members of the UTAS Motorsport team are among our best and brightest, and we are excited to see where their journey will take them and are pleased to be able to support their efforts.”
