ADVICE TO THE PUBLIC:

MAJOR FLOODING NEARING A PEAK ALONG THE DALY RIVER AT DALY RIVER POLICE STATION

Major flooding is occurring along the Daly River at the Police Station. The river level is likely to reach a prolonged peak near 14.10 m during Tuesday, with major flooding.

River levels remain elevated in the Daly River above Douglas River and in the Katherine Rivers but are generally easing. However, in the upstream reaches, small, renewed rises have been observed in the past 24 hours due to local rainfall, which may prolong elevated levels along the Daly River over the next few days. Downstream, river levels are rising along the Daly River with the main flood peak now approaching Daly River Police Station.

Further showers and storms are forecast over the next few days. Widespread significant rainfall is not expected; however small additional river level rises are possible. The situation will continue to be closely monitored, and this warning will be updated as required.

Daly River above Douglas River:

River levels are elevated along the Daly River and tributaries upstream of the Douglas River, including at Dorisvale Crossing.

Lower Daly River:

Major flooding is occurring along the Daly River at Daly River Police Station, with elevated river levels upstream at Beeboom Crossing, Gourley and Mount Nancar.

The Daly River at Daly River Police Station is currently at 14.09 m and steady, with major flooding (14.00 m). The Daly River at Daly River Police Station is likely to reach a prolonged peak near 14.10 m during Tuesday. The river level is likely to fall below the major flood level from Wednesday into Thursday and is expected to remain above the moderate flood level for the rest of the week and into the weekend.

Safety Advice:

Don't drive, walk, swim or play in floodwater because it is dangerous.

Stay away from flooded drains, rivers, streams and waterways.Obey road closure signs. Plan ahead so you don't drive on flooded roads.Check the ABC and local media for updates.
