Four Charged in Fraudulent Grant Scheme: 200+ Offenses

Financial Crimes Squad detectives have charged an additional four men with over 200 offences following an investigation into alleged fraudulent NSW Government grant applications.

It brings the total number of charges to 1782 against 108 people for fraudulent claims worth approximately $8 million under Strike Force Sainsbery.

In November 2021, detectives from State Crime Command’s Financial Crimes Squad – with the Sydney Metropolitan Regions and Service NSW – established Strike Force Sainsbery to investigate fraudulent applications made against NSW Government financial relief schemes related to the COVID-19 pandemic and natural disasters.

About 6.10am yesterday (Wednesday 4 June 2025), strike force detectives arrested a 47-year-old man in Roselands.

He was taken to Campsie Police Station, where he was charged with three counts of knowingly deal with proceeds of crime, dishonestly obtain financial advantage etc by deception, and participate criminal group contribute criminal.

The man was refused bail and appeared in Bankstown Local Court the same day.

About 7.50am, strike force detectives arrested a 44-year-old man in Yennora.

He was taken to Fairfield Police Station, where he was charged with 21 offences relating to alleged fraudulent claims and participate in a criminal group.

The man was refused bail and appeared in Fairfield Local Court the same day.

About 7.55am, strike force detectives arrested a 32-year-old man in Wiley Park.

He was taken to Bankstown Police Station, where he was charged with 92 offences relating to alleged fraudulent claims and directing a criminal group.

The man was refused bail to appear in Bankstown Local Court the same day.

About 9.50am, strike force detectives arrested a 39-year-old man in Green Valley.

He was taken to Liverpool Police Station, where he was charged with 102 offences relating to alleged fraudulent claims and directing a criminal group.

The man was bail refused to appear in Liverpool Local Court today (Thursday 5 June 2025).

It will be alleged in court this syndicate made fraudulent claims worth $1 million.
