Free Access to Weather and Climate Data
As part of the Open Government Data (OGD) initiative, the Swiss Federal Office of Meteorology and Climatology MeteoSwiss is making its wealth of collected, processed and refined meteorological and climatological data available to all interested parties free of charge from May 2025. This step marks the beginning of a new era for MeteoSwiss. The publicly available data will be continuously expanded to provide the greatest possible benefit for society, business and research.
The introduction of OGD is based on the Swiss Federal Act on the Use of Electronic Means to Carry Out Official Tasks (EMOTA, german). The aim is to promote transparency, participation and innovation in all areas of society by opening up administrative data and making it freely usable. The use and dissemination of meteorological and climatological data is considered to be of particular social and economic value.
