Investigation of Spitfire Mk 26B fatal accident, Enstone Airfield, Oxfordshire, on 24 July 2024
This statement provides an update on the AAIB investigation into the accident to Spitfire Mk 26B, G-ENAA, while taking off from Enstone Airfield, Oxfordshire, on 24 July 2024.
During the takeoff, the aircraft veered to the left of the runway and, as it crossed the runway edge, the nose attitude increased markedly. Immediately thereafter, the aircraft rolled rapidly to the left, the left wingtip struck the ground, and the aircraft came to rest upside down and caught fire. The pilot was fatally injured.
The investigation into this event is complete and a final report will be issued in due course.
