Go8 Ready to Back Government’s Productivity Push
June 10, 2025
The Group of Eight (Go8) comprising Australia’s research-intensive universities looks forward to working with the Albanese Government to boost the nation’s innovation and productivity.
Go8 CEO Vicki Thomson said the Prime Minister’s productivity roundtable comes at a critical time.
“We must all work to ensure Australia does not fall behind, that we continue to build our sovereign capability, and remain internationally competitive in this rapidly changing and increasingly challenging geopolitical environment.
“We need a whole of nation effort to drive economic prosperity. It is not one sector over another – developing the all-important interlinkages both locally and globally between businesses, our research-intensive universities, and government sectors is critical for success.
“A strong research and innovation sector is essential to boosting productivity and to Australia’s capacity to be a modern knowledge-based economy, to seize national opportunities and find solutions to the challenges that impact the everyday lives of Australians, ” Ms Thomson said.
Go8 universities are the research powerhouses of Australia, responsible for over 20 per cent of Australia’s R&D investment. We have a key role to play in supporting the Albanese Government’s productivity agenda and will harness the skills and knowledge capability in our universities to work with government and industry to create a more dynamic, competitive and productive economy.
