Government Demands Answers After Escalating Incidents In Lajamanu

Contractors undertaking infrastructure work in the remote community of Lajamanu have been forced to down tools and return to town, following another serious incident over the weekend.

For the second time, there has been an unlawful entry at the Rusca Developments worker’s compound; this time resulting in significant property damage and the theft of an ambulance.

This level of criminal behaviour is absolutely unacceptable.

These workers were in Lajamanu to help deliver vital services and infrastructure for the community – and instead, they’ve been targeted and put at risk.

This morning, I spoke directly with Managing Director Robert Rusca and conveyed my deep frustration and disappointment at the escalating situation.

The safety of workers, residents and service providers must be a top priority.

Enough is enough.

This kind of disruption not only delays much-needed development – it undermines the trust and progress being built in our remote communities.

This week, I’ll seek an urgent briefing from key stakeholders to seek clear answers about what is happening on the ground in Lajamanu.

I will be asking what immediate, decisive actions are being taken to restore safety, deliver certainty for the community, and ensure long-term security for workers and residents alike.
