Grant Applications Open for Better Boating Facilities

Grant Applications Open for Better Boating Facilities

Skippers will have access to improved boating facilities throughout Western Australia with funding now available from the Recreational Boating Facilities Scheme (RBFS).

Applications are open for round 30 of the RBFS, with up to $2.4 million available for public boating facility improvements and new projects.

Implemented in 1998 to improve public recreational boating facilities, the scheme has seen approximately $54 million awarded to 478 projects.

Recreational boat owners are encouraged to discuss ideas for new and improved facilities with local managers.

Eligible authorities, including local governments, government agencies and statutory authorities with responsibility for managing public facilities used for boating have until 5September to apply for funding.

Funds are available for the planning, construction or upgrade of boat launching ramps, jetties, moorings, breakwaters and new channels directly related to a public recreational boating facility. Land based infrastructure at public boating facilities, such as trailer parking areas, toilets and boating signage are also eligible.

Up to 75 per cent of the cost of a project can be funded by the RBFS, with the maximum grant set at $750,000.

Application forms and more information are available at www.transport.wa.gov.au/rbfs

As stated by Transport Minister Rita Saffioti:

“The RBFS ensures boat owners have access to new and improved facilities that are safe and meet growing demand in the sector.

“Boat owners directly contribute to the upgrade of the facilities they use through the RBFS as the scheme’s State funding is totally sourced from boat registration fees.

“I encourage boat owners and people that use our incredible waterways and coastline to contribute their ideas and discuss with facility managers about applying for grant funding.”
