Greens Threat To Rural Jobs
The livelihoods of thousands of Tasmanians are at risk under a Greens plan to attack family farms.
The Greens love to hate traditional Tasmanian industries, including farming, forestry and mining.
Part of their plan* is to reduce livestock emissions by slashing cattle numbers, smashing our beef and dairy industries, and putting the axe to jobs.
Premier Jeremy Rockliff said the threat to traditional Tassie industries from the Greens must be resisted.
“Tasmania’s livestock industry and premium produce are the envy of the world, and the Tasmanian Liberals will always support our farmers,” Premier Rockliff said.
“We know the only way Labor can govern after Saturday is with the Greens and their job-destroying agenda.
“A re-elected Tasmanian Liberal Government will continue to support our farmers and the thousands of people who work in primary production in our rural and regional communities.”
The latest edition of the Tasmanian Agri-Food Scorecard, released earlier this year, showed that 2022-23 was another year of growth for Tasmanian agriculture, with the gross value of agricultural production growing by 5 per cent to $2.46 billion in 2022-23, compared to $2.34 billion in 2021-22.
“A majority Liberal Government is the only way to protect these industries and keep Tasmania moving forward with certainty and stability,” Premier Rockliff said.
“The sector needs a Government that steps in to help when and where it can, and a Government that gets out of the way when that’s needed. We will do both.
“In the first 100 days of Government we will consult on a new Long-Term Agriculture Strategy to boost productivity and unlock opportunities across freight, agritourism, education, infrastructure and workforce development.
“We will continue to invest in attracting the next generation into agriculture, funding an Agricultural Career Coach with TasFarmers, and delivering the Agriculture Industry Skills Compact, farm-based education programs in schools and industry-led training pathways.
“Looking to the future, we will back farmer-led innovation, research and on-farm solutions with an additional $1.5 million for the Agricultural Research and Development Fund, as was included in our 2025-26 Budget.
“A vote for Labor or the Greens will take Tasmania backwards.
“We need to keep growing our economy, and our traditional industries are the bedrock of that growth.
“Let’s get on with it.
“Let’s finish the job for Tasmania.”
