Up to $432 million is being committed to Orica’s Hunter Valley Hydrogen project.
This funding is part of the Australian Government’s Hydrogen Headstart program.
The project will see a new hydrogen production plant constructed near Orica’s current Kooragang Island site (South Australia). The new plant will:
The project will use grid electricity backed by renewable electricity certificates. This will ensure all electricity used in production is 100 per cent renewable.
The project will contribute to the ongoing sustainability of Orica’s ammonia manufacturing operations. This will directly support around 250 ongoing jobs.
It is the second and final project to receive support under Round 1 of Hydrogen Headstart.
Hydrogen Headstart is delivered by the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA).
The Government is now moving forward with industry consultation on Round 2 of the Hydrogen Headstart program.
