A new memorial garden to pay tribute to the service of Australia’s servicemen and women at Baranduda Primary School was officially opened yesterday as part of the school’s events to mark Anzac Day.
The
enthusiasm of the children and school community was infectious and the sun shone for the special occasion, which included local defence personnel. The garden was made possible by a Saluting Their Service Commemorative Grant from the Department of Veterans’ Affairs as well as much hard work by many, including the school’s defence families.
The garden includes a bench seat and commemorative plaque underneath the Australian, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags, providing a place for reflection and quiet time.
Many students at Baranduda Primary School are part of defence families and this garden will play a special part in their lives as well.
Congratulations to all involved, particularly the Baranduda Primary School’s Defence School Mentor, Kate Richardson, and all the students including Zoe Richards, year 5, and Tahlia Chandler, year 6.
