CBA strengthens commitment to regional Australia

Helen Haines MP

This is great news for many of our towns.

The Commonwealth Bank has committed to keep all its regional branches open until at least the end of 2026. This will be a relief particularly to the people of Bright, where Commonwealth had previous planned to close their branch this year.

The statement from the bank speaks about “multi-channel” branches, where some branches are open for part of the day, then close and staff move to working as part of contact-centre teams. This is a model that could serve many of our towns well, ensuring face-to-face services remain, and local staff remain in employment.

Maintaining banking services in some of our smaller regional towns will remain a challenge that I am committed to working on.
