Helen Haines MP

Developing policies for the federal government to support community energy projects has been a major focus in my time as the Member for Indi, working with people across the country to develop the Local Power Plan and introducing a Bill to create the Australian Local Power Agency. I am passionate about community energy and its ability to lower emissions, reduce power prices and give communities more control over their energy.

It’s why I’m excited that Round 1 of the Community Batteries Funding Program is now open for applications. This program aims to support the deployment of community batteries across Australia to lower energy bills, cut emissions and reduce pressure on the electricity. Community associations, local government authorities and businesses with a proposal for a community battery are eligible to apply – you can read the guidelines, register for a webinar and find out more information program on the ARENA website.

Please get in touch with my office if you have any questions or require a letter of support. I am proud that Indi has one of the highest number of community energy groups of any electorate in Australia, and I look forward to supporting these groups to build on the fantastic work they are already doing.
