Education is life changing, and I am committed to ensuring more people in regional Australia don’t miss out on getting the education they want just because they live away from a major city.
That’s why I was so excited to attend the opening of the Mansfield Country Universities Centre on Thursday, getting to cut the ribbon and speak to locals about the difference the centre is already making.
I’m pictured here cutting the ribbon (with some very large scissors!) with CUC Ovens Murray chair John Joyce, CEO of Mansfield Adult Continuing Education Kylie Richards and Chair of Mansfield Adult Continuing Education Janene Ridley.
Country Universities Centres allow people who are enrolled in any university across the country to access a quiet study space with fast internet at any time they need it. But it’s more than a physical space – there’s study support and other services that make it easier to succeed in your studies.
I was really moved hearing local Alica Follett (pictured) explain her study journey throughout her undergraduate degree, the difficulty in finding somewhere quiet to sit exams while juggling work and being a parent in a regional area. Alicia’s experiences echoed mine when I was studying as a parent to young children many years ago.
The CUC in Mansfield, based at the Mansfield Adult Continuing Education Centre, is already making a huge difference to Alicia’s life, and will do the same for many more.
Country Universities Centre Ovens Murray includes centres in Wangaratta and Corryong as well as Mansfield. You can learn more here https://www.cucovensmurray.edu.au/
