Everyone who is involved with the Rutherglen Cats or the Murray Felines will tell you that the facilities at Barkly Park are in dire need of an upgrade.
That’s why I am making sure the Federal Treasurer knows that we need funding for new female-friendly facilities in the lead up to the next Federal Budget, which will be handed down in October. This is one of dozens of projects included in the Indi Budget Submission, which I have put forward in partnership with all the local governments across Indi.
Interest in women’s football in the North East is growing quickly, but the facilities at Barkly Park are not keeping up. There are currently no change rooms or showers with privacy and I’ve been told some girls even shower with their clothes on.
Wayne Cooper from the board of the Rutherglen Football and Netball Club showed me the situation of the facilities last week, explaining the masterplan that has been put together by the two clubs for the new facilities. Indigo Shire is backing the plan and I want the Federal Government to back it too.
The Indi Budget Submission is about making sure our needs are front and centre as the Government makes funding decisions.
