I was set to meet with Treasurer Jim Chalmers in Parliament this week but when the sitting days were cancelled I was determined to make sure this meeting still happened!
We spoke about the upcoming budget and my Indi Budget Submission, which has been prepared in partnership with local councils and other community groups to make the case for shovel-ready priority projects for investment in Indi.
I made the Treasurer aware of the great need for funding for a new hospital for Albury Wodonga and he committed to speak to the Health Minister about the issue.
We also spoke about the Government’s plans for regional investment in the upcoming Budget and beyond. I said I was concerned to hear in the media there may be significant cuts to funding for the regions in the budget.
The Treasurer said the Government was committed to regional funding that was transparent and warranted with an ongoing regional program. We will find out more details in the Budget, which I will share with you in turn.
I’m committed to ensuring Indi always has a seat at the table – making the case to the Government for investment for our region every step of the way.
