Issues with phone and internet coverage are among the biggest problems we face in Indi.
I am passionate about improving phone and internet coverage and I am proud of the wins we have had in Indi already. It’s a job that is never finished though and I am committed to working constructively with the new Government to ensure there is proper funding to improve mobile coverage, and improvements to internet access and speeds.
That’s why it was so great to meet with Communications Minister Michelle Rowland MP today, to talk about the needs in Indi and about the Government’s agenda in this area.
The Government has already provided funding to the NBN to improve the coverage of the fixed wireless network, and when that extra coverage does become available I will keep you updated.
We also talked about the Regional Tech Hub, which provides information on the phone and internet options available across different areas of Australia, and how not enough people know it exists. You can check it out here: https://regionaltechhub.org.au/
I was really glad to see Minister Rowland had read the Connecting Indi report, looking at how far we have come in addressing mobile black spots, and the priority places for new towers. We spoke about how we face issues not only with black spots, but with capacity issues in some major towns as the population has expanded beyond current mobile capacity.
I look forward to sharing my experiences and the insights I have gained through the Indi Telecommunications Advisory Group with the Government, and in turn sharing the updates with you all.
