It was fantastic to meet with Catherine King, the new Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development in Parliament last week.
I raised a number of important priorities with the Minister:
– Securing maintenance funding for the North East Rail line to keep trains running safely and quickly
– Making sure the local community has a chance to help design new rail precincts in Benalla, Euroa, Glenrowan and Wangaratta as part of the Inland Rail project
– Delivering on the Albury Wodonga Deal
– Speeding up works on the McKoy Street overpass
– Making sure the Government delivers on a $9.8 million commitment for road upgrades in Mansfield
I also requested the Minister commit to future regional grant programs to provide opportunities for our community to secure funding for much-needed infrastructure in a fair and non-political process.
Importantly, we need to make sure the alpine resorts of Indi are included in these grant rounds. The former Government consistently excluded alpine resorts. I want to see this changed.
To get our regional economy back on track, we need to see strategic investment in infrastructure and development. I’ll keep working with the new Minister to get that done.
