When Otto Dal Zotto, of Dal Zotto Wines, planted Australia’s first prosecco vines in the King Valley in 1999, he did what so migrants have done – shared a part of his childhood in Valdobbiadene, Italy with his new home in Australia.

From these humble beginnings, Australian prosecco has grown into a major industry with $205 million per year in sales alone and over half coming from the King Valley region. But it’s under threat.

I’m working with Otto and the winemakers of the King Valley to pressure the Federal Government not to trade away the name prosecco in free trade negotiations with the European Union. This would devastate our industry. It’s worth fighting for.

Prosecco is protected in Italy, but for Otto it’s a true-blue Australian bubbly
