The decision by NAB to close the Alexandra branch is a terrible decision, by yet another major bank closing up in a regional town. It means Alexandra won’t have a bank branch in town at all.
I met with a representative of NAB last week and made the case for the branch to be kept open, and for NAB to consider the future findings of the Senate Inquiry into Regional Bank Closures.
Unfortunately NAB told me they won’t reverse the decision to close the branch in May, or even to delay it while the Senate inquiry takes place, which some of the other major banks have done. This is incredibly disappointing for the people of Alexandra.
The Senate Inquiry into Regional Bank Closures is now taking submissions and I encourage people affected by these closures to make a submission and get their experience on the record: https://www.aph.gov.au/Parliamentary_Business/Committees/Senate/Rural_and_Regional_Affairs_and_Transport/BankClosures
