The House of Representatives just voted 89-56 to adopt my amendments to insert regional Australia into the heart of Australia’s new climate policy framework. As a result of this change, the regions stand to reap enormous economic and social benefits from clean energy and new industries.
I thank the Government and my fellow crossbenchers who voted in favour of my amendments. This is what happens when Governments listen to the crossbench who can improve legislation by listening directly to their communities.
It is bitterly disappointing the Coalition voted against my amendments. They voted against the jobs and economic opportunities that renewables will bring to the regions. They put politics above their own communities. And they showed why more regional areas are voting Independent.
Thank you to Rebekha Sharkie MP who moved the amendments on my behalf.
