The time really has flown – tomorrow will be the 100th edition of my Cockatoo newsletter!
I’m often asked the story of the cockatoo and how it came to be a staple of independent campaigns here in Indi. It actually emerged during the 2016 election campaign, when it was observed that the volunteers campaigning for Cathy McGowan were like a flock of cockatoos.
The association and symbolism has grown from there, representing a community flocking together to build a vibrant democracy.
Volunteers have crafted cockies out of old yard signs and injected much fun, intrigue and conversation into the independent campaigns of Indi.
It was only appropriate that as your MP that I called my newsletter the Cockatoo to continue those conversations about what is happening in Parliament and what I’ve been working on in Indi.
