The Wangaratta Community Garden on Buchan Avenue has been going for almost 30 years, giving people space to grow produce in their plots, share knowledge and create connections with each other.
The new Life Skills Gardening program aims to teach people how to grow their own garden plots, learning about soil preparation, nutrients, organic matter and pest control, seeds and seedlings, watering, seasonal planning, crop rotation, companion planting and of course cooking and eating your produce!
Wangaratta Community Garden has been funded to run the 8-week program through VicHealth for people aged between 18 and 25, but are also seeking expressions of interest from people outside this age group to gauge interest for running more programs.
I love getting out in the garden and it is heart-warming to see this love and important local knowledge and life skills being shared among our community.
