There are many ways to advocate for change in Parliament, working across party lines and talking about causes that are important to us. One of those ways is through Parliamentary “Friends” Groups, where we unite as Members of Parliament for common causes.
This Parliament I am fortunate to once again be co-convenor of the Parliamentary Friends of Preventative and Public Health. We had our first event of this year on Wednesday, hosted with the Public Health Association of Australia.
Health Minister Mark Butler and Shadow Health Minister Anne Ruston both addressed the event, as did President of the PHAA Professor Tarun Weeramanthri AM and Director of the National Centre for Immunisation Research and Surveillance, Professor Kristine Macartney.
Thank you to my colleagues across parliament for supporting this important initiative to work towards preventative health strategies to ensure a better future for all.
