This morning I helped launch ‘Protecting Australia’s Whistleblowers: A Federal Roadmap’. Prepared by Transparency International, Griffith University and the Human Rights Law Centre, the report lays out the ways in which federal laws need to change to protect and support people who blow the whistle on wrongdoing.
Importantly, its first step on the roadmap is an whistleblower protection authority – something I have worked towards for a long time, and was included in my model for a federal integrity commission.
Protecting whistleblowers is an important step in improving integrity and governance and will strengthen the effectiveness of the National Anti Corruption Commission.
