Today is the 15th anniversary of the Apology to the Stolen Generations.
It was an honour to sit with members of the Stolen Generations at this morning’s breakfast and to attend the address on the Closing the Gap Implementation Plan afternoon.
Ngunnawal elder Aunty Violet Sheridan welcomed us to country at the launch of the Parliamentary Friends of the Uluru Statement From the Heart this afternoon. She called on non-Indigenous Australians to walk beside First Nations Australians and vote “Yes” at the referendum later this year.
Constitutional recognition of First Nations Australians is the next step on the road of reconciliation and I hope we can all walk on that journey together.
