We need to strengthen the integrity and transparency of election processes.
I commend the Member for Curtin Kate Chaney on the introduction of her Private Members Bill today.
The Member for Curtin’s bill is
aimed at restoring trust in elections through reforms that improve transparency, reduce financial influence and level the playing field for candidates. These reforms would ensure election campaigns meet community expectations, building on the integrity work that I have championed in the parliament, along with my crossbench colleagues Zali Steggall, Andrew Wilkie, Rebekha Sharkie and Senator Larissa Waters.
I challenge anyone who votes no on these very sensible reforms to explain why.
