Women have long served in Australia’s defence forces.
World Wars I and II to the Korean and Vietnam wars, Timor Leste, Iraq, Afghanistan after more recent conflicts. They served as nurses, doctors,
peacekeepers, fighter pilots, tank drivers and more.In February, their service was commemorated at the unveiling of the Violet Town Women in War Memorial mural. Conceived in 2019 by RSL member Jenni Kennedy and designed by local artists Tim Bowtell and his son Sam in recognition of the many who served.
I was proud to speak about this project in Parliament last week and acknowledge this outstanding project.
