Working hand in glove with local government representatives is an important part of my job as the Independent Member for Indi.
I recently held a meeting with the mayors and CEOs of all nine local government areas that fall within Indi, to talk about the issues we face, how we can work together to solve them and to understand the needs of our local councils.
Many of the issues we discussed were similar across all the councils – housing affordability and availability, phone and internet coverage, including capacity issues and mobile blackspots, and roads.
We also spoke about the extreme lack of child care places in many of our towns, and the need for infrastructure funding from the federal government.
In the next few weeks I will meet with Kristy McBain, the minister responsible for local government, and talk about how the government will fund local government infrastructure and other vital issues for Indi.
