Yesterday I stood in the House of Representatives and tabled the report from the Joint Select Committee scrutinising the Government’s bill for the National Anti-Corruption Commission.
It was an honour to serve as deputy chair on the committee and to hand down a consensus report from the Committee.
The Committee made six recommendations to the Government to further strengthen the Bill, based on submissions and evidence received.
I also included a number of other considerations in the report, regarding the exceptional circumstances test and measures to further strengthen the independence of the oversight committee and budget transparency.
This bill is a very good model for an integrity watchdog, but it could be better. That’s why I intend to move amendments when it comes to a vote, and I hope the Government and the Opposition adopt my changes.
