The scale of loss across our region from these bushfires has been devastating.
In Murrindindi alone, 190 homes have been destroyed, many more damaged, and thousands of outbuildings and kilometres of fencing impacted.
Communities are now facing a long road to recovery.
Yesterday, I joined Minister for Emergency Management Kristy McBain in Euroa, Alexandra, Ruffy and Yarck to see the damage firsthand.
I’ve been working to ensure recovery payments are available to as many affected people as possible, with further towns being assessed and added.
Support includes emergency re-establishment grants, assistance for prolonged power outages and dedicated recovery hotlines.
Beyond individual payments, councils, community organisations and primary producers will need sustained support to repair roads, restore services, provide mental health care and rebuild livelihoods.
I’ll continue working with all levels of government to ensure recovery is funded, locally informed and sustained – so no community is left behind.
