Hodgson Meets India's Mines Secretary Goyal
Today, Canada's Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Tim Hodgson, met with India's Secretary of the Ministry of Mines, Piyush Goyal, to advance cooperation on critical minerals, mining value chain development, and investment promotion.
Discussions covered Canada's critical minerals sector and plans to expand engagement to mutual benefit. Recognizing India's growing interest in lithium, potash, rare earth elements, and graphite, both sides agreed on the importance of identifying investment priorities and projects of interest. The Minister and the Secretary discussed India's strategy to develop domestic critical minerals value chains, including secondary refining, and Canada's complementary objectives to build resilient supply chains under its Critical Minerals Strategy.
Secretary Goyal and Minister Hodgson agreed to formalize Canada and India's cooperation on critical minerals in the coming weeks, including a high-level Indian government and industry delegation coming to the Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) 2026 convention in Toronto. Minister Hodgson underscored Canada's leadership in mining equipment, services and technology and the opportunity for both countries to showcase mining projects at the PDAC convention in March, which convenes global decision-makers in investment.
