Hodgson Meets India's Minister of Renewable Energy

Today, Canada's Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Tim Hodgson, met with India's Minister of New and Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi, to explore deepening policy exchanges and cooperation in areas such as renewable energy, hydrogen and bioenergy innovation.

Minister Joshi highlighted the "Make in India" initiative, launched in 2014, which aims to facilitate the country's emergence as a global manufacturing hub with an increasing focus on clean energy sector growth, investment attraction and skilled job creation. Minister Hodgson emphasized Canadian strengths in industrial decarbonization and energy storage as potentially supporting India's transition objectives.

Discussions also addressed investment and market access pathways needed to deepen bilateral trade and technology deployment, including Canada's role as a strategic supplier of energy, critical minerals and clean technology solutions. The Ministers looked forward to opportunities to work together on clean energy through multilateral fora and standard-making organizations.
