HomeGrown Grants Extended to 2027 for Housing Boost
2 February 2026
HomeGrown build grants extended to September 2027 to drive housing, jobs and investment.
More than 400 grants have been approved, injecting over $180 million into the Territory's economy.
Home ownership supports population growth, which underpins a growing economy.
The Finocchiaro CLP Government will extend the HomeGrown build grants program through to September 2027, providing long-term certainty for families, builders and investors and reinforcing the Northern Territory as the most competitive place to live, work, visit and invest.
The extension will give the construction industry confidence to plan projects, retain workers and invest in local capability, while helping more Territorians enter the housing market or build their dream homes.
More than 400 HomeGrown build grants valued at $30,000 and $50,000 have already been approved, representing an investment of over $12 million into the construction sector, supporting local jobs across the Territory and population growth.
With more than 400 grants approved, this represents around $180 million in local construction activity, supporting Territory jobs, strengthening supply chains, and contributing to long-term economic growth.
Chief Minister Lia Finocchiaro said extending HomeGrown through to 2027 would provide certainty to builders, tradies and suppliers, allowing a clear pipeline for housing delivery through 2026 and 2027.
"Construction relies on certainty and extending HomeGrown gives builders and families the confidence to commit to new projects," Mrs Finocchiaro said.
"Since May 2025, an average of 25 HomeGrown grants for buying or building have been issued each week, supporting Territory families to build their life in the Northern Territory.
"Under Labor, the Territory was set to build the lowest number of homes since records began and our Home Grown build grants have turned that around with CommSec ranking the Territory first in the nation on population growth (1.2% annually) and recording the fastest growth economic growth at 10.2%.
"HomeGrown build grants give older people the opportunity to right size their home which adds more stock into the market giving young families the chance to access bigger homes. It also means people who have owned a home interstate can pack up their life and build a new one in the Territory.
"For people looking to own a home for the very first time, we have made it easier to save for a deposit by carefully designing a scheme that contributes to a home loan deposit, making that dream of a new home achievable"
"To rebuild our economy, we need strong population growth and by having the most competitive home build scheme in the country for both first homeowners and anyone else who has owned or does own a home, is locking people in for the long term."
Chief Executive Officer Sallyann Innes said extending the HomeGrown Territory Grants is a practical step that supports housing delivery while keeping workforce, skills and investment in the residential building sector in the Territory.
"On behalf of Master Builders NT members, we welcome another year of certainty for home builders, tradies and suppliers to plan ahead, retain staff and keep delivering homes for Territorians. When the Territory builds, the economy grows," Ms Innes said.
"We congratulate the Northern Territory Government on continuing a policy that is fit for purpose for our unique jurisdiction. When policy settings genuinely reflect Territory conditions, they provide certainty for industry, confidence for homebuyers and practical outcomes on the ground."
The HomeGrown extension announcement is part of the CLP Government's Year of Growth, Certainty, Security launch today, where Chief Minister Lia Finocchiaro will outline her government's policy priorities for 2026.
