HomeGrown Territory Grants Surge: 500+ Applications

Six months on from its launch, the Finocchiaro CLP Government’s HomeGrown Territory Grants scheme has proven to be a game-changer for people looking to build their dream home.

More than 500 applications have been received and over $5 million has already paid out.

In Central Australia, 56 Territorians have benefited from government support to buy their first home, with the vast majority receiving the $10,000 First Home Owner Grant for established properties, and one taking up the $50,000 grant for a new build in Ilparpa.

Launched on 1 October 2024, the CLP’s flagship housing support initiative is helping more people take that all-important step into home ownership, while boosting the building industry and supporting jobs across the NT.

Under the scheme, people can access three targeted grants:

$10,000 First Home Owner Grant (Established Homes) – 365 applications$50,000 First Home Owner Grant (New Build) – 106 applications$30,000 Fresh Start Grant (New Build) – 38 applications

Eligibility for the scheme is for Australian citizens and permanent residents to support population growth.

Treasurer Bill Yan said the strong uptake showed the scheme was delivering exactly what it promised – more people in homes of their own, and a stronger, more resilient housing market.

“We know the cost of housing has made home ownership feel out of reach for many,” he said.

“That’s why we introduced these grants, which are the most generous in Australia, to give more people a real shot at building or buying a place they can call their own.

“In just six months, more than 500 people have taken up the opportunity, with over $5 million already flowing into local pockets and businesses. That’s real impact.

“We promised to rebuild the economy, and we also promised 2025 would be a year of action, certainty and security, and that’s what our government is delivering through policies such as the HomeGrown Territory Grants scheme.”

The grants are part of the Finocchiaro CLP Government’s wider housing plan – boosting housing supply, growing the construction sector, and creating more liveable communities for the future.

“Last month, we released the lots in Stage 1 of the Holtze Land Release, offering a range of competitive options for those looking to build their home in the Top End,” said Mr Yan.

“The grant is set to end in September, however, given its success we are considering an extension.”

Applications for the HomeGrown Territory Grants remain open, with eligible people encouraged to take advantage.
