IMF Africa Director Meets Senegal’s President Faye
Dakar, Senegal: Mr. Abebe Aemro Selassie, Director of the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) African Department, met yesterday in Dakar with President Bassirou Diomaye Faye of Senegal. At the conclusion of the meeting, Mr. Selassie issued the following statement:
“President Faye and I had constructive discussions on Senegal’s economic situation and the actions the government is taking to address the misreporting case.
“We discussed the priority measures needed to overcome the main economic challenges facing the country. In this regard, I noted that the IMF shares the President’s priorities to restore fiscal transparency, reinforce accountability, and put public finances on a sustainable path.
“I emphasized the IMF’s readiness to continue supporting Senegal’s efforts, and our commitment to maintain and build on our longstanding partnership. In the near term, this will include a visit by Senegalese authorities during the upcoming IMF-World Bank Spring Meetings in Washington D.C. to continue our dialogue on important economic reforms that could restore fiscal and economic stability for the benefit of the Senegalese people.
“I thanked President Faye and his Ministers for the warm reception they afforded me during my visit and look forward to engaging with his team later this month in Washington.”
