We are pleased to introduce the Department of Local Government, Industry Regulation and Safety’s (LGIRS) Corporate Executive Team, led by Director General Lanie Chopping:
Peter Stewart, Acting Deputy Director General Building, Energy Safety and Service Delivery.
Holding two statutory offices (Building Commissioner and the Director of Energy Safety) this role regulates the building, plumbing, electricity and gas industries and leads the operational support division managing customer service and occupational licensing.
Trish Blake, Commissioner for Consumer Protection.
The Commissioner for Consumer Protection is responsible for the administration of a range of legislation that provides for industry regulation and consumer protection to ensure a fair-trading environment for consumers and traders.
Ian Munns, Deputy Director General Corporate Services and Labour Relations.
Provides specialist advice, effective business systems, and internal controls to support departmental objectives. Also delivers compliance services, leads reform of employment laws, and oversees labour relations policy and governance in line with government wage policy.
Erin Gauntlett, Deputy Director General Local Government and Racing, Gaming and Liquor.
Building the capacity of local governments, so they are capable, well-governed and best able to serve their communities. Also responsible for promoting and maintaining the integrity of lawful racing, gambling and liquor activities in Western Australia for the social and economic benefit of all.
Sally North, WorkSafe Commissioner
As the regulator under the Work Health and Safety (WHS) Act 2020, the Commissioner is responsible to the Minister for Industrial Relations for the administration of the WHS Act, and any other laws relating to work health and safety administered by the Minister.
