Karratha Housing Surge: 31 New Homes Unveiled

Perdaman has begun building 31 of a planned 100 homes in Karratha, with the boost in housing stock facilitated through the State Government unlocking significant parcels of land in the Pilbara through DevelopmentWA.

Construction of the Karratha homes follows DevelopmentWA last year selling 85 lots to Perdaman and 15 lots to Murujuga Aboriginal Corporation from Madigan at Baynton West.

Perdaman is expected to build 100 houses within five years using local building contractors.

The land sales are designed to support the growth of Perdaman’s $7 billion Karratha urea project which will drive activity in and diversify the local economy. The homes will be reserved for workers who are based in Karratha.

In addition, DevelopmentWA will prepare additional lots for the general market, further supporting local land supply.

DevelopmentWA is progressing planning for Stage 3 of Madigan at Baynton West, which is expected to deliver around 400 additional lots, as well as land for a childcare centre and a new primary school.

With the support of a $22.1 million Federal housing grant, up to 199 residential lots at Mulataga will also be delivered in partnership with the City of Karratha.

Works on that project are expected to commence later this year.

DevelopmentWA is also investigating future residential opportunities in the region, including grouped housing, retirement accommodation and high-density centre development opportunities.

As stated by Premier Roger Cook:

“My government will never stop working to ensure every Western Australian has a home.

“I want everyone in the Pilbara to have access to local job opportunities, as well as essential infrastructure and services.

“By building 100 homes for its local workforce in Karratha, Perdaman is not just improving housing supply in regional WA – it’s creating a pipeline of construction work for local builders and driving investment in the Pilbara.

“This supports our vision for creating jobs in regional WA, attracting new industries, and building homes for all Western Australians.”

As stated by Pilbara MLA Kevin Michel:

“I’m proud to be part of a government which is relieving housing pressures in regional WA while supporting investment in major job-creating projects.

“These new homes will support our government’s efforts to ensure the Pilbara remains the engine room of WA’s economy.”

As stated by Perdaman Chairman Vikas Rambal:

“We are pleased with the progress being made on our housing project as we move closer to the operational phase of the urea project.

“Project Vesta is intrinsically linked to this endeavour, providing homes for the highly skilled workforce that will be instrumental in the ongoing delivery of Project Ceres.

“We believe the successful execution of both projects will foster unprecedented growth opportunities for the Karratha community and beyond.

“Perdaman values the vital support from the State Government in our vision to enhance Karratha’s housing and make it one of the most vibrant communities, as well as our commitment to developing a non-FIFO workforce who will integrate into and thrive in the local community.”
