King Island Ambulance Station Site Chosen

The Tasmanian Liberal Government is delivering on our commitment to build a new Ambulance Station on King Island, with a preferred site selected for its location.

The vacant site at 25 Edward Street, Currie, is adjacent to the King Island District Hospital and Health Centre and located in the southwest corner of the hospital grounds.

Minister for Health, Jacquie Petrusma, said the Government is delivering the critical infrastructure needed to bolster ambulance and paramedic services across Tasmania.

“The new King Island Ambulance Station will provide a dedicated, contemporary and purpose-built station that will cater for all of Ambulance Tasmania’s requirements, with capacity for future expansion of services for the island,” Minister Petrusma said.

“Since coming to Government, we have committed to building 16 new or upgraded ambulance station infrastructure for our expanding ambulance service, to ensure Tasmanians receive the right care, at the right place, at the right time.

“As part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future, we’re delivering more new ambulance stations at King Island, Cygnet, Snug, and Legana.”

Ambulance Tasmania’s existing facilities on King Island are based at the Emergency Services Centre that is shared with other services.

The Department of Health has consulted closely on the site chosen with the King Island Council, King Island Ambulance Tasmania volunteers, and the Tasmanian Health Service.

Planning discussions and design for the station is significantly progressed, and public consultation for the new ambulance station design is expected to commence next month.
