Labor Misrepresents Facts, Again

Tasmanian Labor’s incompetence is once again on display with yet another attempt to walk back support for the stadium by misrepresenting the facts.

The Government has been entirely consistent: the Tasmanian Government’s capital expenditure on the Macquarie Point Multipurpose Stadium is capped at $375 million.

Nothing has changed.

Macquarie Point Development Corporation will manage its debt profile accordingly – enabling the opportunity to attract and secure private investment while delivering on key timeframes.

This is consistent with the original published business case.

The decision to prioritise the delivery of the multipurpose stadium through a ‘design and construct’ pathway provides certainty and confidence in the future of the Precinct and the Tasmania Devils AFL Club.

A public-private partnership model to deliver the stadium and broader precinct would cost the taxpayer more, take longer to implement and take away from the asset being owned by and for the Tasmanian people.

Labor’s comments today show they are more interested in politics than progress.

We cannot afford any delays if we are to meet the existing timeframes set out in the AFL agreement. Without a stadium, there is no Tasmanian AFL Team.

Labor says it has changed and now supports jobs and progress but make no mistake: it’s the same old Labor – all over the shop on the stadium.

If Labor are truly supportive of Tasmania’s AFL team, they will get on board and work constructively with the Government and stop misrepresenting the facts.
