Laneway Art Breathes Life Into Ararat Landscapes
Anne-Marie Randall's landscape paintings have transformed the High-to-Barkly Streets laneway into a new outdoor gallery experience for locals and visitors to enjoy.
Ararat Rural City Council has partnered with Lake Bolac artist Anne-Marie Randall to showcase a selection of her works in the central Ararat laneway, creating an open air exhibition that celebrates the region's natural beauty. The installation features a series of acrylic paintings depicting much loved locations around the Grampians and Lake Bolac, including Halls Gap, Lake Bellfield, Lake Wartook, and the Grand Canyon walking track.
Anne-Marie studied Art and Design at Box Hill TAFE before completing a Bachelor of Fine Arts at the former Chisholm Institute of Technology, now Monash University, and has exhibited in seven solo shows and numerous group exhibitions, including as a member of the Contemporary Art Society of Victoria.
Her practice focuses on capturing the sharp, bright colours of Australian sunlight and the calm of local lakes and mountain landscapes, inviting viewers to pause and reflect on the places they know well.
Mayor Cr Bob Sanders said the laneway gallery was another example of how local creativity can bring new life to everyday spaces in the Ararat CBD. "Anne-Marie's work really speaks to this district," Cr Sanders said. "You look at these paintings and you can almost feel the sun on your back and the crunch of the track under your boots. It is local country on the wall, painted by a local artist, and we are very proud to share that in the heart of town."
The exhibition space was established with support from the Victorian Government's COVID Safe Outdoor Activation Fund 2021 and continues to provide opportunities for local and regional artists to exhibit in the city.
