Leaders Outline Europe’s Future in New Book
Would you like to know what the Foreign Minister of Iceland thinks about the future of Europe, the perspectives of the Prime Ministers of Portugal and Spain as well as the President of Switzerland? What are the thoughts of the UK and Germany, and why do they differ? What is the perspective of Hungary, Estonia, Albania, Greece, or Andorra? These intriguing questions, among many others, are explored in the Book of Europe. First-Hand Visions of the Future of Europe launched by Liechtenstein’s government.
The publication brings together more than 30 invited leaders across the Council of Europe member states sharing their vision for the future of the continent with first-hand insights into the complexity of modern Europe, seen from different geographical and political standpoints.
The book, was initiated by the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Liechtenstein during the Presidency of the Principality of Liechtenstein (November 2023 to May 2024):
“As European leaders, we frequently share our visions in bilateral and multilateral discussions, such as at the recent Council of Europe Summit in Reykjavík in 2023, or at meetings of the European Political Community. However, until now, we have never put our shared thoughts into writing to address the people of Europe. In public discourse, it is often the voice of the EU or a few larger European countries that dominates the news and political dialogue. This book allows us to hear both large and small voices from across Europe – from the north and south, the east and west – at once.”
A core aim of this project is to highlight the significance of the Council of Europe’s role and mission in upholding democracy, human rights, and the rule of law across its 46 member states and ensuring that its values and standards are better understood.
The book is a special tribute to the Council of Europe’s 75th anniversary. Through this ambitious project, Liechtenstein not only reaffirms its commitment to the Council of Europe’s mission but also sparks meaningful discussions about Europe’s future, paving the way for a more united and resilient continent.
