Death of the Hon Tony Staley AO
Liberals across Australia are today mourning the passing of Tony Staley.
Tony Staley was a giant of the Liberal movement.
For more than three decades, Tony Staley was one of the Liberal Party’s most outstanding contributors.
He was elected to the House of Representatives as the Member for Chisholm in 1970, holding the seat until his retirement from parliament in 1980.
During the Fraser government, Tony served as Minister for the Capital Territory and later as Minister for Post and Telecommunications.
As Federal President of the Liberal Party from 1993 until 1999, Tony left an indelible legacy.
He was instrumental in rebuilding the Party organisation as it emerged from its years in opposition and in supporting the election of the Howard Government.
On behalf of the Liberal Party of Australia, I express our condolences to Tony’s family and loved ones.
May he rest in peace.
