Michael Praised as Exceptional Federal Member
Nationals Member for Riverina, Michael McCormack, says a Federal Coalition Government will contribute $1.5 million towards the construction of a new amenities block at Roberts Park in Murrumburrah.
“The existing toilets at Roberts Park are more than 40 years old and do not meet the needs and expectations of the community today, particularly female users,” Mr McCormack said.
“It’s time the Roberts Park facilities were brought into the 21st Century and this commitment will help make that happen.
“Sport should be accessible to everyone, whether they are female or male, have a disability, or are able-bodied.
“For too long, country sportsgrounds have been male oriented, but with the growing popularity of traditionally male-dominated sports such as Rugby Leage and Australian football among females we need to deliver facilities they need, deserve, and expect.”
Mr McCormack praised Hilltops Council for working with local sporting clubs and discussing their needs and requirements, with one of the main issues raised being a lack of changeroom facilities at Roberts Park, which is used for Rugby Union, Touch Football, Soccer, and Cricket.
“Roberts Park does not have sufficient facilities for female sporting teams; they are forced to use male changerooms. New changeroom facilities will ensure an inclusive and safe changing area for females.”
The project also includes new canteen facilities and all-abilities toilets.
Hilltops Mayor Brian Ingram said the replacement of amenities at Roberts Park would be a fantastic boost to the Harden-Murrumburrah community.
“It is vital that the amenities, including dedicated female change rooms, canteen and storage areas, are suitable to support the numerous sporting groups who call Roberts Park home,” Councillor Ingram said.
“We are very fortunate to have Michael as a Federal Member. He is always willing to assist and advocate for us at all times.”
Mr McCormack said the investment was part of The Nationals’ continuing commitment to delivering better facilities for rural and regional Australians
