Nelmes Leads Property Council Hunter, Central Coast
The Property Council of Australia has appointed Nuatali Nelmes as its new Regional Director for the Hunter and Central Coast, bringing a strong record of civic leadership and regional advocacy to some of NSW’s fastest-growing communities.
Ms Nelmes is widely respected for her work as Lord Mayor of Newcastle, where she championed city-shaping projects, unlocked major investment, and built deep relationships across government, business, and community. Her ability to navigate complex policy environments and deliver results has earned her a reputation as one of the region’s most effective public leaders.
She now brings that experience to the Property Council, where she will lead local advocacy on behalf of the property industry – focused on accelerating the delivery of more housing and employment land, fixing planning bottlenecks, supporting strategic investment, and promoting certainty for developers and investors.
Property Council NSW Executive Director Katie Stevenson said Ms Nelmes’ appointment comes at a critical time for the region.
“Nuatali understands what it takes to deliver growth at scale. She has a strong track record in facilitating urban development, and her collaborative approach to city planning positions her well to support and represent the property sector in this vital role.
“She’s a proven advocate for the Hunter and Central Coast and knows how to work across government and industry to turn the great potential of these regions into powerful outcomes for communities. We’re delighted to have her join the team,” Ms Stevenson said.
Ms Nelmes said she was excited to take on the role and represent an industry so central to the region’s future.
“I’m thrilled to continue to support the delivery of major renewal opportunities like the Broadmeadow precinct and Gosford City Centre, advocate for fast-tracked delivery in Transport Oriented Precincts, and back in both regions’ potential for growth with housing and jobs.
“The property sector builds the homes, workplaces, and precincts on which our communities rely. My passion for the region is well-known and I’m looking forward to working with our members to grow investment, remove barriers, and help make the Hunter and Central Coast even better places for people to live and work,” she said.
Ms Nelmes will begin in the role on 12 May and will be attending the Property Council’s Hunter Lunch on 15 May with Kiersten Fishburn, Secretary of the Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure and member of the Housing Delivery Authority.
