New Aged Care Facility In Rutherglen One Step Closer
The Allan Labor Government is ensuring older Victorians get the high-quality care they deserve – with the new, state-of-the-art public residential aged care service in Rutherglen reaching practical completion.
Minister for Ageing Ingrid Stitt today announced the facility is one step closer to welcoming residents into the $57.1 million Glenview Community Care Nursing Home operated by Indigo North Health – now located at a bigger and better site on Main Street.
The modern, fit-for-purpose design will provide a safe and comfortable place for residents to call home and a modern working environment for the dedicated staff.
Designed to maximise residents’ independence, each bedroom will have its own ensuite bathroom, as well as the facility design being divided into smaller ‘households’ that include dedicated kitchens, dining rooms, lounge and sitting areas to feel as homely as possible.
It also features common rooms like a community room, reflection room and other areas for residents to catch up and meet with family and friends.
Capitalising on the natural surroundings of the new site, natural light and open area views have been prioritised throughout the building.
Green spaces and fresh air are essential for physical and mental wellbeing and the facility ensures that residents will always have access to these important amenities.
It has also been purposefully designed to be dementia-friendly and better suited to supporting the unique mental health needs of older Victorians.
Delivered by the Victorian Health Building Authority and builder Zauner Construction, the project created and sustained around 170 local construction jobs, with more ongoing jobs to become available when the site opens.
Ms Stitt and Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes will officially open the facility in the coming weeks.
The Labor Government has a strong track record of delivering public sector residential aged care services, with more than $700 million in investments, including more than $370 million to progress the Rural and Regional Public Sector Residential Aged Care Revitalisation Strategy to replace and refurbish aged care facilities.
