New Chapter Begins For Rosanna Library

The Allan Labor Government is giving delivering the facilities needed for lifelong learning, with the opening of the redeveloped Rosanna Library.

Minister for Local Government Nick Staikos joined Member for Ivanhoe Anthony Carbines today at Rosanna Library to officially open the new facility, and welcome residents to the new space.

The Labor Government invested $1.5 million towards the redevelopment through the 2021-22 Living Libraries Infrastructure Program, while Banyule City contributed a significant $15 million.

At 1600 square metres, the new library is double the size of the previous library, ensuring it can service future community needs and cater for population growth in the area.

The library includes a range of new facilities, including an expanded children's area, a youth gaming area, study lounge spaces, community meeting rooms, co-working spaces, indoor reading areas, an outdoor reading terrace, a podcast studio and a music recording studio.

Both the indoor and outdoor spaces have been designed to provide a contemporary, progressive and innovative library service in the heart of the local community.

Banyule City Council's Child and Maternal Health Service and the very popular Banyule Toy Library will also be housed in the new library.

The Living Libraries Infrastructure Program enables Victorian Councils and regional library corporations to provide high quality infrastructure to meet their communities' changing needs.

The Victorian Government has invested $57.6 million dollars into 176 library infrastructure projects over the last eleven years, with a total project cost of $522.4 million.

As stated by Minister for Local Government Nick Staikos

"Libraries provide free public access to information and technology, literacy support, and training and skills development that engage communities and enrich community life."

As stated by Member for Ivanhoe Anthony Carbines

"Libraries are about so much more than books - they contribute to the connections that strengthen and enrich Victorian communities, and support a culture that values reading, learning and social connection."

As stated by Victorian Public Library Ambassador Andrea Rowe

"Rosanna Library is a welcoming space where people of all ages can learn, create and connect, showing the vital role libraries play in supporting literacy, access to knowledge and community connection."
