New Digital Kiosks Aid Family Student Payments

The Cook Government is making it easier for more Western Australian families to access hundreds of dollars in cost-of-living relief through the WA Student Assistance Payment, with the launch of a new in-person kiosk trial.

The ServiceWA Digital Assist Kiosk trial will provide free support at 11 public libraries across the State, helping families in locations from Broome to Esperance set up the ServiceWA app to claim their payment.

Kiosks will be available in five metropolitan and six regional locations, including in the Kimberley and Pilbara, from 7 May to 4 July.

No appointment is necessary, and families should bring their smartphone with the ServiceWA and myID apps installed, any two Australian identity documents, and their child’s WA Student Number.

Parents and carers of students from kindergarten to year 12, who are enrolled in a WA public or non-government school or registered for home education, can claim the payment up until Friday, 4 July.

Secondary students are eligible for payments of $250 each, while kindergarten and primary school students will receive $150 each to meet costs of education including books, IT equipment, sport and music costs, stationery, school shoes, uniforms, excursions, and camps.

The rollout of the program delivers on an $89 million Cook Labor Government 2025 election commitment, with almost 400,000 eligible student claims paid through the initiative during its last round.

More than 130,000 families of school-aged children have already successfully submitted claims for the payment since claims opened on Monday, 28 April.

In addition to the ServiceWA app, alternative claim methods will be available including paper forms via the Department of Education website .

As stated by Education Minister Sabine Winton:

“The WA Student Assistance Payment provides cost-of-living relief to Western Australian families, ensuring that students have everything they need to thrive at school.

“The Cook Government understands that some families, particularly in regional Western Australia, may need assistance navigating digital services.

“That’s why we’re bringing this support directly into communities across the State to ensure technological barriers don’t prevent eligible families from accessing this important program.

“I encourage families who need help setting up their ServiceWA app to visit their local kiosk or call 13 33 92.”

As stated by Regional Development and Science and Innovation Minister Stephen Dawson:

“We’re committed to helping WA families access this cost-of-living relief.

“The ServiceWA Digital Assist Kiosk trial is about ensuring all Western Australians can benefit from government digital services.

“This trial represents our commitment to making government services more accessible, particularly for those who may not be confident with technology.

“By combining digital innovation with face-to-face support, we’re creating a more inclusive approach to service delivery.”
