New grant to help reduce emissions in Australia’s resources industry
The Australian Government has committed $8.5 million over 2 years to support priority methane abatement technologies for the resources sector. This was committed in the 2022 October Budget.
Methane is a potent greenhouse gas with a high global warming potential. Coal and gas production is a significant source of methane in Australia and globally. However, there are currently limited technologies to reduce methane emissions in the resources sector, particularly in coal mining.
This program will support universities, publicly funded and non-profit research organisations to advance new priority technologies that reduce and remove methane from Australia’s coal and gas industry.
It will fund development, prototype and demonstration level projects.
