New Social Housing Delivered In Shepparton

More homes mean more opportunity and that’s why the Allan Labor Government is delivering new, modern and secure homes in the heart of Shepparton.

Minister for Housing and Building Harriet Shing today announced construction has begun on a $10.3 million supportive housing complex – delivering 15 more homes for Victorians in need.

The project will provide 10 one-bedroom units and five two bedroom units for people who have a history of homelessness.

Construction of the project is set to be completed in early next year and every home has been carefully designed to optimise natural light and manage heating and cooling – making it easy for renters to stay cool in summer and warm in winter.

Nearby, a new social housing development has been completed as part of the Labor Government’s Flood Recovery Program.

The development has eight new homes and was funded through the Labor Government’s Flood Recovery Program, which was established to provide homes for those impacted by the 2022 floods.

These new one and two-bedroom homes are modern and energy efficient, meaning renters will be able to stay warmer in winter and cooler in summer. The homes are centrally located close to shops, transport, schools, and other services.

The Labor Government’s nation-leading $6.3 billion investment in housing is delivering more safe, accessible and modern homes for vulnerable Victorians across the state – with more than 10,100 homes already underway or finished. More than 5,500 Victorian families are already moving into their new homes.

As part of this landmark investment, the $1 billion Regional Housing Fund will build or upgrade more than 1,300 homes across rural and regional Victoria by 2028. This is in addition to more than 3,000 homes for rural and regional Victoria under the $5.3 billion Big Housing Build.

The Labor Government is investing more than $120 million across Greater Shepparton to build 310 new homes, with more than half already finished and available for families on the Victorian Housing Register.

In addition to this, the $26 million Regional Supportive Housing Program will deliver 15 new homes in Shepparton – the first permanent, supportive housing of its kind in regional Victoria for people experiencing rough sleeping.

As stated by Minister for Housing and Building Harriet Shing

“We know demand for housing in regional Victoria is growing and the Regional Housing Fund will increase housing supply and take pressure off renters and first home buyers across our regions and rural areas.”

“Our record investment in social and affordable housing is providing homes for Victorians who need them while also creating thousands of local jobs.”

As stated by Member for Northern Victorian Jaclyn Symes

“We are getting on delivering much needed homes for Victorians across Shepparton that are close to schools, jobs and services.”
